Jaclyn Palmer has been named the district nurse for Owensboro Public Schools.

Palmer has worked for OPS since August 2019, serving as both an individual nurse for students and a school nurse. Palmer brings more than 8 years of nursing experience, having served as a nurse with the Green River District Health Department from 2017 until she moved to OPS.

“I have greatly enjoyed my work with Owensboro Public Schools and am looking forward to taking on a leadership role with the nursing program in the district,” Palmer said. “I am a proud graduate of Owensboro Public Schools and it means so much to me to be able to oversee and ensure the health and well-being of our students.”

In her new role, Palmer will collaborate with school staff, clinic aides, district school-based nurses, and physicians to develop and implement a total school health program while ensuring all services required follow Kentucky statute. She will also oversee the health screenings and referrals mandated by the state and district policy.

“While we had many qualified applicants for this position, Jaclyn’s experience in the district helped her stand out as the right person for the job,” said John DeLacey, OPS Director of Transportation, Safety, and Health. “Her relationship with the other district nurses and community partners that assist with our health services will allow for a smooth transition into her new role and we are thrilled to have her oversee our district’s health services.”
