NWS: Tornado Watch issued for Daviess County, DCEMA releases shelter list

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Daviess County through 2 a.m.

According to an NWS graphic likely threats include a few tornadoes, scattered hail up to tennis ball size, and scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph.

The Daviess County Emergency Management Agency has released a list of tornado refuge locations.

The following locations will open their doors while a Tornado Watch is active and remain open until the severe weather threat has concluded:

  • Legacy Owensboro, 5333 Frederica Street
  • Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Road
  • St. Martin’s, 5856 KY 81
  • Panther Creek Baptist Church, 7146 US 431

If a Tornado Warning is issued, Yellow Creek Baptist (5741 KY 144) would its doors and remain open until the severe weather threat has concluded.

A Tornado Watch is issued when conditions make it possible that a tornado could form. A Tornado Warning is issued when a tornado is imminent or has been sighted/radar indicated.
