A body has been recovered from the Ohio River approximately 6 miles downstream from the William H. Natcher Bridge, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brad Youngman said that at approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, human remains were located in the Ohio River by the Daviess County Fire Department. Youngman said the discovery was made during a coordinated search.
“A positive identification of the subject will not be made until later, but based on evidence available at this time our investigators do believe this discovery to be related to our initial call from May 24 that a person may have gone into the river from the Natcher Bridge,” Youngman said.
Due to the location of the body at the time of discovery, the Spencer County Coroner’s Office and Indiana Department of Natural Resources have taken over this stage of the investigation, Youngman said.
“While we have worked several hours per day since the initial call knowing that this outcome was possible, it is not what we had hoped for,” Youngman said. “But we do hope that this will eventually provide some level of comfort for the families involved.”
DCSO and DCFD began a search on the Ohio River on May 24 based on information that someone may have jumped from the southbound side of the Natcher Bridge earlier that day.
Other agencies that have assisted in the search included the Owensboro and Yelvington fire departments, Daviess County Emergency Management Agency, Kentucky State Police, Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, and Rockport Police Department.
