Owensboro Catholic swept Apollo in a City-County matchup, while Trinity came up short against Ohio County in volleyball action Tuesday.

OCHS 3, Apollo 0

Olivia Castlen recorded a team-high 12 kills and added four digs and two blocks as the Lady Aces swept Apollo 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19). Tyranda Stuart led the team in digs with 11 and added 11 kills and a service ace. The duo of Reese Keller and Mayme Powell put on a passing clinic, finishing with 18 and 17 assists respectively. Keller added seven digs and two service aces, while Powell recorded six digs, four service aces, one block, and one kill.

“This win makes us 4-0 in the district,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Brian Hardison said. “We head to All-A state in Elizabethtown on Friday.”

For Apollo, it was an off night from the offense. Ava Fazio led the team with eight kills, while Jessie Pate finished with 11 digs and Jessica Lee recorded 14 assists.

“Owensboro Catholic is a great team,” Apollo head coach Mary Howard said. “Tonight they played more aggressively than we did. We were playing carefully and trying not to make mistakes. To compete against high-quality teams you have to execute aggressive plays and that is one thing we will look to improve upon going forward.”

Ohio County 3, Trinity 0

Kenzie McDowell led the Lady Raiders with eight kills and 13 digs, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Ohio County 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-22). Caroline Hall finished with 21 digs, while Ava Coomes had four blocks.

“We did not play well tonight,” said Trinity head coach Brooke Hall. “We played flat and made way too many errors across the board. By the time we finally came around and decided to play, it was too late. It’s a game of momentum and energy and Ohio County had it from the first whistle to the last.”
