Southern Star Cares has announced finalists for its 2024 grant program, with awards of up to $50,000 to be given.
Grant recipients will be named the week of December 16 and will be chosen based on the information provided in their applications, a review by the Southern Star Cares Board of Directors, team member focus groups, and a vote from employee donors who contributed to the organization’s fundraising campaign.
“Thank you to all the applicants this year that took time and effort to share their organization’s story and passion with our team,” Rita Daming, Southern Star Cares Board President said. “Our team can’t wait to share our care again this year with organizations making a difference in our community.”
Finalists are as follows:
Tier 1 — $2,500 – $10,000
- Danheiser Fund for Kids
- Fresh Start for Women
- Crossroads Homeless Shelter
Tier 2 — $10,000 – $25,000
- Whitesville Fire Department
- Shepherd’s Hand Clothing Ministry
- Puzzle Pieces
Tier 3 — $25,000 – $50,000
- Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County
- Owensboro Museum of Science & History
- Thruston-Philpot Fire Department
Southern Star Cares grants are funded by our team members. Last year, Southern Star team members pledged more than $100,000. All funds raised by Southern Star Cares go directly towards funding our grant recipients, with no administrative fees or deductions.
This year’s grant application window opened on August 12 and ran through September 6. Any tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization serving Daviess County, Kentucky was eligible to apply.
