Update 11:58 a.m.: Daviess County Fire Department chief Jeremy Smith said the fire is contained but not out. The EPA and EMA are conducting air monitoring to ensure there is no danger. He said the fire only involved tires behind the building; no structure was involved.

The investigation is ongoing, and the cause is unknown at this point.

“There were a couple of injuries,” Smith said. “One was transported to the hospital; that (injury) happened before we got on scene.”

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has issued a traffic alert for KY 2830.

According to the release, multiple agencies are responding to a fire in the 7100 block of KY 2830, which is closing the highway between Wrights Landing Road and Iceland Road.

According to Sheriff Brad Youngman, the fire is at Tire Recycling, Inc. Youngman said crews have the fire contained and are working to completely put it out and clean up the scene.

Youngman added that heavy smoke from the fires blocked the roadway, forcing them to shut down traffic.
