“It’s incredible to be able to award more than $128,000 in awarded grants, pledged by our team members, to support the Owensboro community in 2025 and beyond,” said Rita Daming, president of Southern Star Cares. “The Southern Star Cares board is excited to be able to award funding to multiple additional organizations this year. We can’t wait to see the impact these groups will make in our community.”
All recipients were chosen based on information provided on their applications, a review by the Southern Star Cares Board of Directors, team member focus groups, and a vote from employee donors who contributed to the organization’s fundraising campaign.
Southern Star Cares received more than 50 applications totaling more than $1.2 million in proposed projects. This year’s grant application window opened on August 12 and ran through September 6. Any tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization serving Daviess County was eligible to apply.
Grants are funded from team members’ contributions. All funds raised go directly to grant recipients with no administrative fees or deductions. Southern Star Cares will continue its grant program in 2025. Details will be announced at a later date.
