The Owensboro Coin Club is hosting its annual coin show this Saturday. The show will feature vendors from across the region and offer attendees the opportunity to buy, sell, appraise, and enjoy rare and collectible coins and currency.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Owensboro Opportunity Center.
Greg English, the club’s show chair and former president, said the event has grown in recent years, reflecting the club’s commitment to expanding its presence in the community.
“This year, we’re hoping to have over 30 vendor tables,” English said previously. “The show provides a chance for people to connect with collectors, find specific coins for their collections, or even get inherited coins appraised.”
The Owensboro Coin Club originally formed in 1959 but went through a period of dormancy before being re-established in 2015. Its first show under the current iteration was held in 2019. While the club’s membership primarily consists of retired individuals, English said the group is working to attract younger collectors, a challenge in today’s fast-paced world.
“It’s tough to get teenagers or younger adults involved,” English said. “Most of our members are older, retired individuals who now have the time to dedicate to collecting. But we’re always looking for ways to bring in a new generation.”
English, a private collector himself, emphasized the joy of the hunt for collectors.
“Collectors love the challenge of finding that one coin to complete their set,” he said. “It’s addictive. You get started, and you just want to keep going.”
The Owensboro Coin Club’s show draws attendees and vendors from across the Midwest and beyond, including cities such as St. Louis, Louisville, and Gallatin, Tennessee.
“It’s not just a local event,” English said. “People will drive hours to get here, whether they’re buying silver or looking for rare pieces to add to their collections.”
Admission to the show is free, and additional details can be found on the Owensboro Coin Club’s Facebook page.
