This is the latest information on the suspect from Monday’s vehicle pursuit that began in Indiana and ended near Maceo in Daviess County.
Nina Adaline Devillez, 31, of Santa Claus, Indiana, remains in custody at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital under guard by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and is receiving medical treatment, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
According to DCSO, the incident began around 9:30 a.m. on April 21 when Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch was alerted that a Rockport Police Department officer was in pursuit of a stolen Chandler (Indiana) Police Department cruiser heading toward Kentucky via the William H. Natcher Bridge on U.S. Highway 231.
Deputies with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to assist and were advised that shots had been fired and the suspect may have been injured, according to a release.
DCSO said Tommy Ferry located the scene near Terminal Road and U.S. 60 East and saw the stolen cruiser had crashed, and the suspect had fled on foot through a nearby field.
According to a release, Deputy Ferry and the Rockport officer pursued the suspect approximately 300 yards before catching up. They said Devillez attempted to fight the officers and resisted arrest, at one point trying to strike them with a motorcycle helmet. The release said Deputy Ferry deployed a taser to subdue Devillez, who was unarmed at the time.
Authorities said it was immediately apparent that Devillez had suffered multiple gunshot wounds prior to entering Kentucky. DCSO said emergency personnel from the Daviess County Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Service transported Devillez to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
According to DCSO, on the afternoon of April 21, the Indiana State Police informed DCSO that Devillez had active arrest warrants stemming from the pursuit. A release said DCSO deputies confirmed the warrants through NCIC, and after verifying that the issuing agency would extradite, they charged Devillez with being a Fugitive From Another State (KRS 440.270[2]).
According to the sheriff’s office, the initial charges filed by DCSO — fleeing or evading police (second degree), criminal trespass (third degree), resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct (second degree)—are all misdemeanors. Records indicate Devillez has been cited into court on those offenses; however, he is now being held in Kentucky solely on the fugitive charge, which carries no bond.
DCSO said once released from the hospital, Devillez will be taken to the Daviess County Detention Center. The release indicates that an extradition hearing will be held within a few days. According to DCSO, if Devillez waives extradition, Indiana authorities will be permitted to transport the suspect back to face charges.
Officials said if Devillez contests extradition, a Governor’s Warrant will be issued, and a more detailed hearing will occur within 30 days to determine whether Devillez can be legally returned to Indiana. During that process, DCSO said Devillez will be allowed to present a case explaining why extradition isn’t warranted.
