An Owensboro man is facing multiple charges, including child endangerment, after police say more than 28 grams of suspected fentanyl pills were found near his 1-year-old child.
Officers with the Owensboro Police Department and detectives from the Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Clay Street, according to a release from OPD. During the search, they arrested 27-year-old Marshall Griffith Jr.
According to police, the fentanyl pills were found in close proximity to the child. Officers also located marijuana, Oxycodone pills, cash, and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking, the release says. Detectives said Griffith appeared to have attempted to destroy drugs before surrendering to police.
Griffith was charged with:
- Aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance (>= 28 grams of fentanyl)
- Trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st degree – 1st offense (unspecified Schedule I or II drug)
- Trafficking in marijuana (8 ounces to 5 pounds) – 2nd or greater offense
- Endangering the welfare of a minor
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Tampering with physical evidence
Police said Animal Control officers assisted in safely handling several aggressive dogs at the scene. No animals were harmed during the operation. The child was placed in the care of a relative.
