A summer evening surrounded by blooms, music, and local flavors awaits visitors this Sunday at Reid’s Orchard for its third annual Sunset Flower Market Day, promising a laid-back afternoon for the whole family.

Held in the “Katie’s You-Pick Flower Field,” the event will run from 4-8 p.m. on July 27, with activities for kids, live music, local vendors, and the chance to hand-pick bouquets straight from the field.

“It’s just like a little fun Sunday afternoon event,” said Valerie Reid Reel, event coordinator at Reid’s Orchard. “There’s not a lot to do on Sunday afternoons, and people seem to love coming out, letting the kids run around, picking flowers, eating dinner, listening to music — and then heading home to get ready for the week.”

This year’s market will feature food trucks from Hill View Farms Meats and Real Hacienda, live music by Flat Stanley Jr, local vendors, a mini golf course, games for children, and a petting zoo with horse and pony rides.

But the main attraction is the flower picking. Guests can purchase a jar and fill it with their own custom bouquet from rows of vibrant blooms in the orchard’s expansive flower fields.

“It’s a really pretty setting, because everything is right in between the you-pick flower fields,” Reel said. “People get to go out, pick the flowers, and create something beautiful. I think they just have fun seeing what they can put together.”

The Sunset Flower Market has become a community favorite since its start in 2022. While still relatively new, the event has grown steadily and maintained its charm thanks to good weather and strong community support.

“Luckily, we’ve had some nice weather for the evening time — I’m hoping we do again this weekend,” Reel said. “It’s a great chance for people to come out and visit the farm. Not a lot of people get to see things that are actually grown on a farm, or pick their own flowers.”

By spotlighting local vendors and musicians, the event also helps support small businesses and artisans in the region.

“We use local vendors — everybody’s local — and it’s just something else for the community to enjoy,” she said. “It’s a good event for Owensboro.”

Whether you’re crafting a bouquet, grabbing dinner with friends, or letting the kids play and explore, Reel encourages everyone to come by.

“You just come out and see us this summer,” she said. “It’s a great way to spend a Sunday.”

The event is free to attend, with food, flowers, and some activities available for purchase.
