With a chance to return to the State Championship and defend their title, the Owensboro Post 9 Bombers’ Reed Sherrard and Levi Rogers were nearly unhittable – combining for seven shutout innings, striking out nine. With the duo leading the way, the Bombers beat American Legion Kentucky Post 8 3-0, returning to the state title game for a fifth straight season.
Brady Atwell put the Bombers up 1-0 in the top of the first after driving in a run on a ground out. An inning later, Brody Brubaker made it 2-0 after scoring on a sacrifice bunt. Logen Thomas singled home the teams third run of the game in the top of the sixth, securing the teams win.
“The boys came out and scored a run in each of the first two innings,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “They changed pitchers, and we stalled for a bit. Fortunately, our pitching was very good with Sherrard and Rogers pounding the strike zone. We are excited for the opportunity to be back in the championship game.”
Parker Heistand finished 2-3, while the Bombers outhit their opponent 9-1. Later today, the Bombers will defend their State Championship crown at 3 pm.
