Young dancers with a passion for performance will soon have a chance to join the stage with Owensboro Dance Theatre, as the organization prepares for auditions ahead of its 44th season.

Tryouts for the 2025–2026 Company and Apprentice Company are scheduled for August 7 from 4:30-6:45 p.m. at Johnson’s Dance Studio, 2705 Breckenridge Street.

Dancers must be at least 11 years old by the audition date and have intermediate to advanced training in both ballet and jazz. Participants should come prepared to take class in both styles. Those selected will train a minimum of 10 hours per week in addition to rehearsals for the company’s major productions.

Now entering its 44th season, ODT continues its mission of fostering young dancers while providing high-caliber performances, community outreach, and dynamic arts education.

This year’s featured productions include The German American Bank Nutcracker and the spring performance In Concert featuring Wizard of Oz…Reimagined.

“At ODT, we’re not just training dancers—we’re shaping artists and leaders,” said Managing Artistic Director Joy Johnson. “This company is a space where hard work, creativity, and community come together in powerful ways.”

Johnson said ODT’s commitment to professional excellence sets it apart. Company dancers frequently work with nationally recognized guest artists and professional choreographers, gaining experience in a supportive environment rooted in both artistic growth and community impact.
