Union County native and former NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey will be the featured speaker for this year’s Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club Steak & Burger Dinner.
The event is set for September 11 at the Club’s Mike Horn Unit at 3415 Buckland Square. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the program beginning at 5:30. Tickets are $100 each, with corporate table packages available. Proceeds benefit the Mike Horn Unit’s Academic Success and Healthy Lifestyle programming.
Casey, who moved to Morganfield at age 3, was a standout at Union County High School before committing to the University of Kentucky. Playing under Coach Joe B. Hall from 1975-79, he captained the Wildcats during his senior season and helped lead the team to the 1978 NCAA championship. He earned a degree in business administration and was awarded Kentucky’s All-Academic Award.
His coaching career began as an assistant at UK and Western Kentucky University before he moved to Japan, where he led teams in the Japanese Basketball League. Casey later returned to the U.S. to serve as an assistant for the Seattle SuperSonics, winning four division titles, and for the Dallas Mavericks, where he was part of the team’s 2011 NBA championship.
As head coach of the Toronto Raptors, Casey became the first in franchise history to reach 200 wins and to be selected for the NBA All-Star Game. He was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2018 before leading the Detroit Pistons and moving into the team’s front office.
The Steak & Burger Dinner is sponsored by Independence Bank, with dinner provided by LongHorn Steakhouse. Organizers say attendees can expect “a fantastic meal and a surprise sweet treat” along with an inspiring evening.
Seating is limited, and RSVPs are due by September 4. For tickets or more information, visit cliffhaganboysandgirlsclub.org or contact Kalie Winkler at 270-685-4903 or [email protected].
