Owensboro natives Robert and Anna Kuhner are putting a fresh spin on breakfast with their new food truck, Breakfast Express. The couple said the idea came from listening to what the community wanted.

“People kept saying there weren’t any breakfast trucks in town,” Anna said. “I’ve been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years, so we knew we could make it work.”

Anna spent more than two decades managing a local restaurant, but now she and Robert are running their own mobile kitchen. They turned the idea into reality in just a few months, designing a menu that balances simplicity with quality.

Among the staples are BLTs, Texas toast sandwiches, stuffed pancakes, and smash burgers. She said local favorites like Kentucky Legend ham and fresh-cracked eggs also set their offerings apart.

“We wanted it simple but really good,” Robert said. “Everybody likes smash burgers here, and breakfast is something people can enjoy any time of day. We knew that’s what Owensboro wanted.”

Since opening, he said Breakfast Express has been met with overwhelming support. The Kuhners said schools, factories, and even radio stations have helped spread the word.

“The love and support has been way more than we expected,” Anna said. “We’ve had free advertisement from media outlets, schools reaching out, and factories calling us. It’s taken off faster than we ever thought.”

In just a few weeks, they’ve served at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art’s Food Truck Wednesday, been invited to multiple schools, and booked upcoming events such as the Madisonville Food Truck Festival and Hancock County’s October 25 event. They also plan to set up regularly at local businesses and along Industrial Drive to catch early factory traffic.

Though breakfast is the main focus, the couple said they’re flexible with specials and requests. That adaptability has already helped them gain loyal fans.

“One guy asked for stuffed banana pancakes even though it wasn’t on the menu,” Robert said. “We made it happen — and then he came back with a group order of 13 people the next day.”

The Kuhners also recently added fruit parfaits and breakfast wraps, which quickly sold out. Anna said specials like biscuits and gravy pop up when possible.

“We just want to feed people well and keep things exciting,” she said. “If it’s not on the menu but we can make it happen, we’ll try.”

For now, Breakfast Express can be found at different locations around Owensboro, with schedules and updates posted on Facebook.

“We’re happy to call Owensboro home,” Robert said. “Now we’re proud to bring something new to the community.”
