“With two more key players out with injury, I had to tweak the formation and lineup again heading into tonight’s big district game vs Apollo,” Daviess County Head Coach Dale Armistead said. “Credit to Apollo for coming out on the front foot and bringing the game to us and it took about 15 minutes for our guys to settle in and start figuring things out. We got three quick goals from the 17th to 21st minute of the first half, which took a bit of pressure off of us. But credit again to Apollo for continuing to battle and scoring the next two goals in the game, making it a nail-biter for a while. We were able to convert a corner kick in the 72nd minute and put the game away. Hopefully, after next week, we will get some guys back from injury and see how the second half of the season goes.”
For Apollo, Colton Anderson and Ahmad Hanafi both scored, while Jason Palacios had an assist. Nolan Perkins finished with five saves in net.
“I’m pleased with my boys’ performance and effort tonight, but it wasn’t enough,” Apollo Head Coach Nikos Agisilaou said. “Daviess County is a tough opponent any night. Today was no different. We can be better in attacking situations, and we know that. Credit to Daviess County tonight.”
Owensboro 6, Owensboro Catholic 0
Denis Juma scored and added two assists, while Kennedy Payne had a goal and an assist in the Red Devils 6-0 win over Owensboro Catholic. Max Knoop and Avidael Diaz both found the back of the net, while Patrick Alexander scored on a penalty kick.
“I thought tonight Owensboro Catholic played a very good first 20 minutes of the match,” Owensboro Head Coach Ryan Hayley said. “They were disciplined across the back line and midfield, stepping up to deny our chances when they arose. Andy does a great job coaching them up. In regard to us, I feel we came out slow to start the match but gradually found our legs. As time went on, I was happy with the patience our boys displayed, not rushing, and just taking what the game would give them. For us, we are taking a long weekend off to rest and recover before getting back next week to prepare for September.”
