Community leaders, educators, and elected officials are stepping into the role of artists for “Art by the Stars,” a gala benefit supporting the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art.

The event is scheduled for September 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will feature an exhibition and auction of works created by these “nonartists,” known as STARS, who were paired with professional Owensboro artists to craft original pieces.

Among this year’s STARS are State Rep. D.J. Johnson; Daviess County Commissioner Chris Castlen; philanthropist Kate Burton; Owensboro Museum of Science and History Director Isaac Settle; realtor Tyler Shookman; Theatre Workshop of Owensboro Director Cali Whitmore; Pure Barre owner Annie McCreary; and Kentucky Wesleyan College President Dr. James Cousins.

They were mentored by prominent artists Alice Elkins, Sarah Higdon, Heather Logsdon, Katie Lowing, Rex Robinson, Abbi Rupert, Dale Taylor, and James Taylor.

A highlight of the event will be the chance to win a ladies’ gold and diamond bracelet appraised at $3,400, donated from the estate of Mary Bryan Hood. The door prize drawing will be held at 7 p.m., and attendees must be present to win.

The evening will also include a silent auction of prints, paintings, and other pieces. The auction will be conducted by Kelsey Edge of Kurtz Auction & Realty.

Guests can enjoy a catered cocktail buffet and open bar. Tickets are $50 per person, with a discounted rate of $40 available for subscribers to the museum’s Friends of the Foundation. Tickets may be purchased by calling 270-685-3181 or emailing [email protected].

The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art is free and open to the public Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. A voluntary admission of $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12 is encouraged. Assistance and access for visitors with physical challenges is available through the 9th Street Atrium entrance.
