Hosting Evansville Day School, Owensboro Head Coach Sarah Poole and her team expected their opponents to pack the box on defense – facing 10 players in front of the net. The Lady Devils’ offense struggled to penetrate through the defense, but Neheman Mujinga took advantage of her opportunities. The sophomore found Adalynn Selby and Ella Hall in the 22nd and 68th minutes to power Owensboro to a 2-1 win.

“We had much better pass tonight,” Poole said. “We struggled a few games to connect and to really have strong support off the ball, and we did that much better tonight.”

Leading 2-0, Evansville scored its lone goal of the game off a corner kick in the 73rd minute, but Owensboro prevented its opponents from building off the momentum.

Moving forward, Poole acknowledged that if her team plays against another defense that decides to pack the box, she wants to see her team shoot from farther out.

“We can’t dribble through 10 people,” Poole said. “Three would collapse to every single ball, and it’s hard to get around that. Just play faster and add even more support off the ball that we can.”

Owensboro Catholic cruises past Madisonville-North Hopkins

Traveling to Madisonville-North Hopkins, Allie Marston scored a hat trick and Chloe Marston had two assists in the Lady Aces 4-1 win. Meredith Traylor scored a goal, while Felicity Payne finished with two saves in net.

“Our girls came out flat in the first half, and we’re not completing many passes,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Meg Patton said. “In the second half, it was much better. We had several opportunities, with multiple people man marking our forward Allie Marston. This also created several chances for our wings, Scarlett and Johanna. The girls finished the game very strongly and are ready for a long weekend of soccer at All A.”
