Owensboro Catholic boys golf win 2nd Region Tournament

Shooting 311, Owensboro Catholic edged out Henderson County by five strokes to win the boys golf 2nd Region Tournament. Daviess County shot 322 and finished third, while Hancock County was one stroke behind them, tying for fourth. Apollo (60 over, tied for 8th), Owensboro (66 over, 13th), McLean County (106 over, 15th), and Trinity (Whitesville) (19th) were also all in attendance.

Also joining Owensboro Catholic at semi-state from the area are Daviess County’s Collin Reynolds, Owensboro’s Colby Vanover, and Hancock County’s Ethan Heavrin, Jaxson Unsel, and Memphis Ball.

Vince Hayden led the way for the Aces, shooting 74 and finishing second in the individual, while Tristan Logsdon (tied for 8th, 78), Luke Estes (tied for 8th, 78), and John William Wathen (tied for 16th, 81) rounded out the team’s top four scores.

“It was such a fun day,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Bretnea Harvey said. “So many teams were fluctuating in the top five spots until about five holes remaining. My team collected a few pars and leveled out toward the end, and I really feel like our strong finish made all the difference. We really focused on taking each shot one by one all day and not mounting pressure. I’m really proud of them.”

Daviess County’s top four consisted of Collin Reynolds (tied for 3rd, 75), Jaxson Unsel (80), Jacob Nolan (83), and Michael Kuhna (84), while Jaxon Blake (79), Ethan Heavrin (79), Memphis Ball (80), and Jacob Shultz (85) rounded out Hancock County’s top four scores.

Apollo’s top four consisted of Brady Robbins (81), Beau Brock (81), Kamdyn Ulmer (86), and Lucas Cambron (96), while Owensboro was led by Colby Vanover (78), Walker Gaddis (84), Carter Vanover 88), and Tyler Block (100).

McLean County’s top four consisted of Kaysen Bozarth (91), Treyson Blades (95), Wyatt Gatton (99), Zack Albin (105), while Finn Williams (95), Zach Boarman (99), Will Mills (105), and Grant Howard (116) rounded out Trinity (Whitesville’s) top four scores.
