The Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Foundation, in partnership with VFW Post 696, will host a ceremony on Sunday in observance of National Gold Star Mothers and Family Day.

The event will take place at 4 p.m. on September 28 at the Gold Star Monument in Smothers Park.

During the program, an Honor and Remember flag will be presented to the family of U.S. Navy Petty Officer Jared Alan Craig, a 1993 Daviess County High School graduate who died while on active duty in Florida on October 2, 2013.

The ceremony will include a presentation of colors, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of TAPS by the VFW Post 696 Color Guard. Students from the Whitesville Elementary School Choir, The Wildcat Singers, will perform the national anthem and lay wreaths at the monument. Craig’s sister, Tara Craig Garrison, is also scheduled to share remarks.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move inside VFW Post 696 at 311 Veterans Blvd.
