Owensboro 67, Apollo 36

Unique Carter Swanagan scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the second half in the Lady Devils’ 67-36 win over Apollo. Avery Martin hit three threes to go along with her 17 points, and Abby Sapp was third on the team in scoring with 15 points.

“I thought we played excellent defense, and our press seemed to disrupt them,” Owensboro Head Coach Wynn Harris said. “I felt offensively, we shared the ball really well and had balanced scoring. Obviously, we have things we need to work on, but for a first game, I was very pleased.”

Daviess County 52, Meade County 47

Kennedy Lane finished with a team-high 21 points and added seven rebounds in the Lady Panthers’ 52-47 win over Meade County. Molly Hancock was second on the team in scoring with 11 points and added six steals and three rebounds.

“I thought we played with some first game jitters early,” Daviess County Head Coach Natalie Payne said. “Meade County brought a lot of energy, and I felt like we didn’t match their intensity in the first half. …Ultimately, our defense helped us get over the hump down the stretch. This was a good test for us moving forward.”

Owensboro Catholic 61, Olathe South (Olathe), KS 52

Claudia Munsey hit four threes to go along with her 16 points in the Lady Aces’ 61-52 win over Olathe South. Taylor Mannahan scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half, and Lyla Martin added 12 points.

“I thought we played very hard. We are pretty much playing back-to-back,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Michael Robertson said. “We had to fight fatigue, but still battled. We have a lot of learning to do, but I am hopeful that we are learning.”
