Owensboro Dance Theatre will present IGNITE, a mid-season performance featuring internationally recognized Giordano Dance Chicago, this Friday at 7 p.m. at the RiverPark Center. The event will bring America’s original jazz dance company to Owensboro for an evening centered on movement, music, and community connection.

Giordano Dance Chicago is known for its high-energy performances, athleticism, and expressive style rooted in jazz dance.

The program is designed to appeal to longtime dance patrons as well as audience members who may be experiencing professional dance for the first time. The company’s repertoire highlights the versatility of jazz dance while remaining accessible and engaging for a wide range of audiences.

Following the performance, attendees are invited to take part in the IGNITE Post-Show Celebration. The event will feature music by Zach Quarles, also known as DJ Upvibe, along with drinks and light hors d’oeuvres provided by Maria Kelly with Nona’s Catering. A silent auction will also be held, with proceeds supporting Owensboro Dance Theatre’s mission and community programs.

Giordano Dance Chicago’s visit will also include a community outreach component. Artistic Director Nan Giordano and Associate Artistic Director Cesar G. Salinas will lead outreach experiences at Meadowlands Elementary School and Owensboro High School, giving students an opportunity to engage with professional dancers through movement, participation, and discussion.

Additional classes will be offered Thursday at Owensboro Dance Theatre’s resident school, Johnson’s Dance Studio. The classes are open to dancers ages 10 and older, with an intermediate level class scheduled from 4-5 p.m. and an advanced level class from 5-6:30 p.m.

Organizers said IGNITE reflects Owensboro Dance Theatre’s mission to combine artistic excellence with meaningful community impact, offering both a world-class performance and opportunities for connection beyond the stage.
