Brescia University has appointed Keith Cottoner as its first vice president of athletic affairs, a newly created cabinet-level role aimed at strengthening the university’s long-term vision for athletics.
In the position, Cottoner will oversee all aspects of Brescia’s athletic operations, including athletic personnel, program development, budgeting, facilities, operational planning, and student-athlete support.
Brescia University President Madison Silvert said Cottoner’s leadership will play a key role in the continued growth of the university’s athletic programs.
“His vision, energy, and proven record of building strong, values-centered programs make him the right leader at the right moment,” Silvert said. “Brescia University is experiencing tremendous momentum, and Keith will help accelerate that growth.”
Cottoner brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in athletics, nonprofit management, and community partnership development. Most recently, he served as CEO of the Hopkins County Family YMCA, where he led the $3 million nonprofit organization, expanded services, and launched programs focused on community wellness and youth development.
During his tenure, Cottoner oversaw several capital projects, including a $2 million aquatics center renovation, and helped establish new competitive athletic initiatives such as the Hopkins County Hurricanes Swim Team. Before his time at the YMCA, he led the H. L. Neblett Community Center in Owensboro.
Brescia University competes in the NAIA’s River States Conference and fields 18 intercollegiate varsity teams. Cottoner said he is honored to step into the new leadership role at Brescia.

Silvert said Cottoner’s background and leadership style align closely with the university’s mission.
“His career reflects a deep commitment to service, excellence in youth development, and the cultivation of partnerships that strengthen institutions and the communities they serve,” Silvert said.
Cottoner said athletics can play a significant role in shaping students beyond competition.
“As a former athlete, I understand how transformative sports can be — not just in competition, but in shaping discipline, character, and long-term success,” he said. “My focus has always centered on creating opportunities for youth to thrive. Our goal will be to prepare our student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally for excellence on the field and for meaningful lives and careers after graduation. I look forward to using my experience as a student-athlete and my professional background to help Brescia’s student-athletes excel.”
