Daviess County Public Schools has named Dr. Tricia Murphy as the district’s next director of elementary schools. Murphy currently serves as principal at Whitesville Elementary School.
Murphy began her career at Whitesville Elementary as a kindergarten teacher in 2006. She later served as an instructional coach before being named principal, a role she has held since 2017.
In her new role, Murphy will oversee instructional support across all DCPS elementary schools, working with administrators and teachers to improve classroom performance and student outcomes in grades K-5.
“Serving this district has been an incredible journey, and I am excited to take this next step in support of continued growth and the strong traditions of excellence in Daviess County Public Schools,” she said. “Our elementary schools lay the foundation for lifelong success, and I will serve with a genuine heart and hard work to support positive school cultures where students feel valued, educators feel supported, and strong family partnerships are built.”
District leaders said her background in classroom instruction and school leadership made her a strong fit for the position.
“Dr. Murphy is a fabulous instructional leader focusing on ensuring all students have access to high-quality instruction each and every day,” said Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Jana Beth Francis. “Her insights will be valuable as the Office of Teaching and Learning partners with schools to provide excellent instruction to all elementary students.”
Murphy holds a doctorate in educational leadership, curriculum, and instruction from Oakland City University, along with a master’s degree in teaching and administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Kentucky.
Murphy will succeed Leslie Peveler, who is set to retire May 31.
