A new semester of group music lessons will begin April 28, offering instruction in fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and band classes, along with a new option designed specifically for students with special needs.

The special needs class will meet weekly at 4 p.m. for approximately 30-40 minutes. Students must participate alongside a parent or guardian, with each person using their own instrument as they learn, practice, and perform together. The class will culminate with a performance at ROMP.

Instructor Randy Lanham will lead the class using an open-tuning method on either a ukulele or a banjolele. Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments, though instruments will be available for those who need them. The fretboards will be marked with colored indicators to help students learn finger placement for simple barre chords. Instructional videos will also be provided for at-home practice.

Participants must be at least 12 years old, and class size is limited. The cost is $95 per team, which includes both the student and their accompanying family member. Scholarships are available.

Additional group classes will be offered for beginner and intermediate students ages 9 and up, covering fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and band instruction. All participants will have the opportunity to perform at ROMP at the end of the semester and will receive tickets and a T-shirt if they perform.

The cost for standard group classes is $95 per student, with an additional fee of $50 for each extra family member or for students enrolling in multiple classes.

Instruments may be borrowed with a $50 deposit, which is refundable upon return in good condition.
