The Kentucky State Conference of the American Association of University Women will be held in Owensboro on Saturday, bringing members and advocates from across the Commonwealth together for a day focused on collaboration, leadership, and advancing equity for women and girls.

Hosted by the Owensboro branch, the conference will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and center on the theme “Smart, Strong, and Bold: AAUW Working Together in Partnership,” highlighting local efforts to build community collaborations.

The event begins Friday evening with an optional visit to the “Voices of Women: Owensboro and the Struggle for Women’s Equal Rights” exhibit at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History, followed by a social gathering at The Miller House.

Saturday’s program will feature speakers and presentations focused on partnerships that have helped grow the local chapter. Girls Inc. CEO Tish Correa-Osborne will discuss ongoing collaboration with AAUW, while local students who previously spoke at the Athena awards banquet will share their experiences.

Additional presentations will highlight the organization’s work with the Coalition for an Inclusive Daviess County, including efforts to bring a screening of the documentary The Librarians to the community. Cheryl Brown, Debra McCoy, and Jen Vogel will speak on those initiatives.

The conference will conclude with AAUW Kentucky’s annual state meeting, including the induction of a new board of directors and the installation of Vogel as incoming state president.

“AAUW Kentucky is honored that the Owensboro branch is hosting our State Convention,” said Gae Broadwater, AAUW Kentucky president. “This event highlights our shared commitment to leadership, education, and equity for women and girls, while welcoming members from across the Commonwealth to connect, learn, and be inspired.”

Broadwater said Owensboro’s example of community engagement provides a model for other chapters across the state.

McCoy said hosting the conference is an opportunity to showcase Owensboro and its partnerships.

“Most state members are from central and eastern Kentucky, so I’m happy to show them a little of what we have to offer here,” she said. “Our theme reflects the importance of working together — because we make a bigger impact when we partner with others.”

AAUW Kentucky includes six branches across the state — Owensboro, Louisville, Maysville, Berea, Ashland, and Bluegrass Central — focused on advancing opportunities for women and girls.
