In a pair of important 9th District games, Apollo and Owensboro Catholic both emerged victorious, while Hancock County held off Trinity (Whitesville). In other action, McLean County overcame a four-run deficit to take down Ohio County.
Apollo 2, Daviess County 1
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, a Ross Millburn RBI single and a Brayden Burger bases-loaded walk powered the Eagles past Daviess County 2-1. Milburn finished 2-3 with an RBI, while Ryleigh Logan and Jagger Pate both had hits. Coleton Cox allowed one unearned run over 5 1/3 innings, while Isaac James came on in relief.
For the Panthers, Weston Lawrence drove in the team’s lone run, while Cameron Rickard, Gavin Howard, Caden Embry, Logan Mason, Nolan Johnson, and Byron Jarboe all had hits. Lawrence allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven, while Rylan Clemons recorded the final out.
McLean County 7, Ohio County 6
Trailing 5-1, the Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth as they shocked Ohio County 7-6. Layden Bozarth and Jayden combined for two hits and four RBIs, Brooks Lynam went 1-3 with an RBI, and Zach Albin finished 2-3. Jaelin Groves allowed two earned runs over 4 1/3 innings, while Nash Lee pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief.
Hancock County 4, Trinity (Whitesville) 3
Trailing 3-0 early, the Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the 4-3 comeback over Trinity (Whitesville). Porter Hay, Dylan Mucker, Jacob Shultz, and Kolby Keown all drove in runs, while Landis Pate went 2-3. On the mound, Mucker allowed three runs over six innings, while Hay pitched a scoreless seventh.
For the Raiders, Kayin Howard drove in a pair of RBIs, and Harrison Barnett went 1-3 with an RBI. Isaac Hernandez threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs over six innings, striking out three.
Owensboro Catholic 5, Owensboro 1
Tucker Evans went 2-3 with three RBIs to power the Aces past Owensboro 5-1. Mason Moser went 2-3 with an RBI, Alex Hood finished 2-3, and Jaxson White drove in a run. Lucas Patton started on the mound, allowing one earned run over four innings, while Cal Muphy pitched three shutout innings in relief.
For the Red Devils, Ty Ashley went 2-2, Jaxon Fogle finished 203, and Griffin Gaddis drove in the team’s lone run. Ashley allowed two earned runs over two innings, while Fogle, Dathan Hinton, and Jordan Quesnell all pitched in relief.
