Owensboro Catholic swept their double header, McLean County finished their day 1-1, and Hancock County outlasted Tell City. In other action, Owensboro and Daviess County both dropped their doubleheaders, and Apollo lost a pitchers’ duel to Eastern.

Owensboro baseball honors 1976 State Championship team

In front of a packed crowd, Owensboro High School honored the 50th anniversary of the 1976 State Championship team, with the majority of the team in attendance. Unfortunately, the Red Devils dropped their doubleheader, losing to Central Hardin 5-4 and Male 11-7.

Trailing Male 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, Ty Ashley tied the game on a triple to right field. The Bulldogs went on to score four runs in the top of the eighth, as Owensboro lost in extra innings. Brody Glenn and Ashley both drove in a pair of runs, Dax Garrison went 2-3, and Jaxson Fogle drove in a run. Starting on the mound, Fogle allowed six earned runs over four innings, and Landon Wink and Denton Hardesty both pitched in relief.

Central Hardin jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead, added one run in the second, and two more in the fifth. Trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Red Devils scored three runs and had the tying run at the plate. Ashley hit a two-run triple, and Jordan Quesnell drove him in on a groundout, but Garrison lined out to end the game.

Nash Miller allowed four earned runs over four innings, and Hardesty pitched three shutout innings in relief.

Eastern 2, Apollo 1

Despite having 13 baserunners, the Eagles were unable to fully capitalize, falling to Eastern 2-1. Ty Lillpop and Ross Milburn both had a pair of hits, and Jackson Carder went 1-3 with an RBI. Lillpop through a complete game on the mound, striking out four and allowing two earned runs over seven innings.

Daviess County drops doubleheader

Playing in a round robin, the Panthers lost to Bowling Green 15-1 and Muhlenberg County 11-3.

Hancock County 9, Tell City 7

Jack Roberts went 1-3 with a homer as the Hornets beat Tell City 9-7. Dylan Mucker finished 3-3 with three RBIs, Jacob Shultz went 2-2 with an RBI, and Porter Hay went 2-4. Mucker allowed one earned run over five innings, while Noah Keown, Colten Severs, and Shultz all pitched in relief.

McLean County splits doubleheader

Competing in the Abe Big Stick Classic at Patriot Field, the Cougars finished 1-1 on the day, losing to Heritage Hills 8-3, but beating Lanesville 11-3. In their win over Lanesville, Aden Bolden, Jaelin Groves, and Brooks Lynam combined for seven hits and seven RBIs, and Corbin Martin went 3-4 with an RBI.

Will Gatton struck out seven over four shutout innings, while Nash Lee pitched two shutout innings in relief.

Owensboro Catholic sweep doubleheader

Competing in the Ohio County Triangle Event, the Aces finished the day 2-0, beating Franklin Simpson 15-0 and Ohio County 6-3. Against Franklin Simpson, Tucker Evans finished 3-3 with three RBIs, Mason Russelburg drove in three runs, and Alex Hodd, Jake Murphy, Drew Miles, and Mason Moser combined for four hits and eight RBIs. Lane Hundley threw a complete-game shutout on the mound, striking out five over six innings.
