Fighting the elements, Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) traveled to Lexington for the KHSAA Class 1A State Track Meet, with the Lady Hornets tying Louisville Collegiate with 14 points for 14th overall. Lexington Christian won on the girls’ side, while Beechwood won the boys’ competition.
HCHS: Tied for 14th, the Lady Hornets finished just 10 points off the podium and finished 14th in the 4x400m relay and 22nd in the 4x800m relay. The boys team placed 9th in the 4x400m relay, 11th in the 4x800m relay, and 18th in 4x200m and 4x100m relays.
“The weather was definitely a factor for our kids, like it was for everyone else today. As far as the weather affecting my athletes, Carolina did get an opening height in high jump and Camdyn fouled all 3 throws in shot put. The slick, wet conditions did impact both of those two. Overall, I was proud of how the team did with the bad conditions. They worked hard and kept positive attitudes. It was a memorable end to a great season.”
The top finishers for Hancock County included:
- Carolina Jones: 3rd in 100m hurdles, 3rd in 300m hurdles
- Isabella Ross: 7th in triple jump, 9th in long jump
- Camdyn Harper: 9th in discus
- Emmitt Meserve: 10th in 800m
- Matthew Carroll: 18th in 400m
OCHS: Owensboro Catholic’s boys team tied for 17th place, finishing six points back of a top 10 finish, while the Lady Aces tied for 20th. The girls’ finished fourth in the 4x800m relay, seventh in the 4x200m relay, and 21st in the 4x100m relay, while the boys were sixth in the 4x200m, 7th in the 4x100m, and 16th in the 4x800m.
The top finishers for Owensboro Catholic included:
- Owen Brey: 4th in 3200m, 7th in 1600m
- Ainsley Sutter: 6th in 3200m
- Cameron Woodward: 6th in triple jump
- Anna Booker: 10th in 400m
- Joshua James: 11th in triple jump
- Ashlie Hayden: 11th in 3200m
- Russ Boarman: 13th in 100m
