What to know: OPS, DCPS summer feeding schedules and mobile meal routes

Free breakfast and lunch will again be available to children and teens throughout the summer thanks to meal programs offered by Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools.

OPS program

OPS announced its Summer Food Service Program will begin May 26 and provide free meals to anyone 18 and younger, regardless of school district or household income. The program includes both dine-in locations and mobile meal routes.

OPS officials said breakfast will only be available at dine-in locations this year, while lunch will be served through both dine-in and mobile sites. There will be no meal service June 19 or July 3 due to national holidays.

Under updated USDA guidelines, all meals must now be eaten on site, and children must be present to receive a meal.

OPS dine-in feeding locations include:

  • Owensboro Middle School (Door S5, parking lot off South Griffith Avenue) — May 26-July 24; breakfast from 8-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • Girls Inc. – Churchill Park Campus — June 1-July 24; breakfast from 9-9:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Owensboro Museum of Science and History — May 26-July 24, Tuesday through Friday only; lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • HAO Churchill Park — June 1-July 24; breakfast from 8:30-9:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • HAO Smith Homes — June 1-July 24; breakfast from 8:30-9:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • Passport by Molina Healthcare ONE STOP (behind Once Upon a Child and across from Walmart) — May 26-July 24; lunch from 11 a.m.-noon.

OPS mobile feeding routes will operate June 1-July 24 on weekdays and include:

Mobile Route No. 1:

  • Old Germantown Park — 10:25-10:40 a.m.
  • Locke Apartments — 10:50-11:05 a.m.
  • Chautauqua Park — 11:15-11:30 a.m.
  • Legion Park — 11:40-11:55 a.m.
  • Dixiana Court — 12-12:15 p.m.

Mobile Route No. 2:

  • Daviess County Public Library — 10:15-10:40 a.m.
  • Greentree Apartments — 10:50-11:20 a.m.
  • Lincolnshire Apartments — 11:30-11:50 a.m.
  • Cravens Pool — 11:55 a.m.-12:20 p.m.

Mobile Route No. 3:

  • Chesterfield/River Road — 10:30-10:45 a.m.
  • Smothers Park — 10:55-11:20 a.m.
  • Goose Egg Park — 11:30-11:45 a.m.
  • Moreland Park — 11:55 a.m.-12:20 p.m.

DCPS program

DCPS launched its Summer Feeding Tour on May 22, with multiple daily mobile stops across the county. Meals are free for anyone 18 and younger and must be eaten on site. Drive-through pickup is not available.

DCPS Route 1 includes:

  • Yewells Landing — 11-11:15 a.m.
  • Riverbend #1 — 11:30-11:45 a.m.
  • Riverbend #2 — 11:45 a.m.-noon
  • Riverbend #3 — noon-12:15 p.m.
  • Horse Fork Spray Park — 12:25-12:50 p.m.

DCPS Route 2 includes:

  • Chuck Gray Court — 11-11:15 a.m.
  • Towne Square Court — 11:20-11:35 a.m.
  • Town & Country Mobile Homes — 11:45 a.m.-noon
  • Colony #1 — 12:05-12:20 p.m.
  • Colony #2 — 12:20-12:30 p.m.
  • Yellow Creek Spray Park — 12:40-1 p.m.

DCPS Route 3 includes:

  • Audubon Elementary — 11:15-11:35 a.m.
  • Sorgho Elementary — 11:40 a.m.-noon
  • Panther Creek Spray Park — 12:15-12:45 p.m.

DCPS officials noted Yellow Creek Park will not serve as a route location June 24-26 due to ROMP. No meals will be served May 25 or July 3, and the final day of DCPS summer feeding service is scheduled for July 24.
