The Owensboro Symphony will present its annual Summer Salute concert on tonight, bringing a Motown-themed performance to the downtown riverfront.
This year’s event, titled “Summer Salute: Dancing in the Street,” is set for 7 p.m. at McConnell Plaza and is free to attend. The concert will feature Grammy Award–winning vocalists performing alongside the Owensboro Symphony under the direction of Music Director Troy Quinn.
The program will highlight classic hits from Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder. Audience members can expect songs including “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” “Dancing in the Street,” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “My Girl,” and “Superstition.”
Motown Records, founded in 1959 by Berry Gordy Jr., became known for its distinctive blend of soul and pop music that influenced generations of artists and listeners. Organizers said the Summer Salute program is designed to celebrate that legacy through a live orchestral performance.
The event is made possible through support from Daviess County Fiscal Court, the City of Owensboro, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
