Owensboro’s Blue Bridge Boys are headed to one of the nation’s premier bluegrass festivals after winning the 2026 Battle of the Banjos competition.

The young bluegrass band was announced on Tuesday as the winner of the national contest hosted by the Earl Scruggs Music Festival, defeating artists from across the southeastern United States for the top prize.

Festival organizers announced the victory on social media, calling the Blue Bridge Boys the 2026 Battle of the Banjos champions.

“These kids from Kentucky have been blowing people away all summer, and this September, they’re bringing it to the ESMF stage,” the festival wrote in its announcement.

The victory earns the band two live performances at the 2026 Earl Scruggs Music Festival on Sept. 3 and Sept. 6, a $1,000 cash honorarium, a feature interview on WNCW, full-weekend festival passes, promotional support through the festival’s social media, email, and website platforms, Bluegrass Berm camping accommodations, and a performance at Blue Highway Fest on Oct. 8-11.

Band member Cruz Edwards, 15, previously said the competition represented an opportunity to open doors for the group.

“I think it has potential to be, because when in the music world, when you get invited to one festival, somebody, chances are somebody’s going to see you, invite you to the next one,” Edwards said. “So it’s kind of just like a chain reaction type of thing.”

The Blue Bridge Boys have played together for four to five years and have recently gained a growing audience through social media.

The band includes Edwards, Levi Hausner, Parker Malone, and Noah Mason.

The Earl Scruggs Music Festival is scheduled for Sept. 4-6 in Mill Spring, North Carolina. In addition to performing at the festival, the Blue Bridge Boys will also appear at Blue Highway Fest in October as part of their prize package.
