Empty Bowls of Owensboro is transitioning to a new leadership structure as longtime board chair Tina Taylor steps down after 14 years of service with the organization.
Taylor, who has served in a leadership role for most of her tenure, said she is proud of the organization’s growth over the past two decades and believes it is the right time for a new generation of leaders.
“Serving this organization for over a decade and leading it through its growth has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” Taylor said. “Together, with the dedication of our board members, volunteers, sponsors, artists, community partners and supporters, Empty Bowls of Owensboro has grown into a meaningful community effort dedicated to raising awareness of food insecurity and supporting local hunger relief initiatives.”
Taylor said the organization’s success has been made possible by volunteers, sponsors, artists and community members who have supported its mission to address hunger in the region.
Although she is stepping down as board chair, Taylor said she plans to remain involved with the organization.
As part of the transition, Empty Bowls is adopting a rotation-style leadership model for its executive positions. Officials said the new governance structure is intended to encourage fresh ideas, shared leadership and long-term sustainability.
The organization is seeking community members to serve on its board and committees. Officials said opportunities are available for people with experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, marketing, community outreach, logistics and administration, as well as anyone interested in supporting the organization’s mission.
“I have every confidence that Empty Bowls of Owensboro’s brightest days are still ahead, and I look forward to supporting the organization as it continues its important work in the community,” Taylor said.
Empty Bowls’ annual fundraiser dinner and silent auction is scheduled for Oct. 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the RiverPark Center. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 1 through the organization’s website.
