Castlen Dog Park will be closed for the next two-and-a-half weeks for soil treatments and re-seeding. According to Owensboro Parks & Recreation, this is the ideal time to perform routine lawn maintenance.

The dog park will remain closed from now until Feb. 17, according to Recreation Supervisor Brittni Klotzback.

Parks & Recreation Director Amanda Rogers said the soil at Castlen Dog Park is being treated to improve Ph levels, which lowers the alkalinity of the soil. The area will also be re-seeded while the ground is fairly wet.

“We are closing Castlen Dog Park during this time to prevent damage and make improvements to the ground,” Rogers said.

Castlen Dog Park Spokesperson Sandy Deyton said temporary closures are necessary for dog parks undergoing maintenance and that most closures take place when it’s colder outside and the park sees less foot traffic.
