As part of a recruitment push led by the Owensboro Fire Department, Chief James Howard announced at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting that applications are currently being accepted for entry-level firefighter positions.
Over the last 154 years, OFD has welcomed into its ranks those willing to accept the core mission of its department — “to save lives and protect property” — as well as those willing to work hard, solve problems, work in a team environment and serve as role models.
“It’ll be enriching for your spirit. It provides the opportunity to change lives, including your own, because of what you see and how you respond to the changes you see in your own family, and how you deal with your kids,” Howard said.
Howard encouraged those interested in a fire service career to visit the City’s website at Owensboro.org for more information.
“Take a look at the qualifications, and you might be surprised that the job might be right for you, and you can at least take a stab at it,” he said.
Applications for entry-level firefighter positions will be accepted until Feb. 28.
“If it’s not you who’s interested, but it’s someone you know, please feel free to pass the word onto them,” Howard said. “We’d like to know if they’d be a good fit for the Owensboro Fire Department.”
