OFD investigating Friday night fire

Owensboro Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 700 block of Elm Street around 11:58 p.m. Friday night.

Engine 1, Engine 3, Ladder 1 and Rescue 1 responded to find a fully involved single-family dwelling in flames. Command Unit Fire 95 recognized immediately upon his size up that the home to the immediate north was under threat of catching fire as well.

Engine 2 was requested to the scene for additional staffing. Fire 97 responded to serve as Incident Safety Officer.

Neighbors were evacuated and it was determined that no one was inside the burning house.

The aerial tip on Ladder 1 was used to help extinguish the fire from above while crews worked to extend hose lines on the ground to not only contain the fire but also to protect surrounding property.

The fire is currently under investigation.

AMR Ambulance, Owensboro Police Department, Atmos Energy and OMU were also on scene.
