The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary where more than $80,000 was reported stolen Thursday evening.

According to Detective Brad Youngman, deputies responded to a call Thursday from a home in the 4300 block of KY 142.

Youngman said the victim reported that two unknown persons came to the residence offering to help her fix her roof and evaluate it for damage. According to Youngman, the victim stated one of the men went with her into the backyard while she thought the other stayed inside the truck.

The men were there for approximately an hour, according to the report. A few hours later the victim went into her bedroom, where she noticed her safe had been pried open and more than $80,000 in cash along with jewelry was missing.

According to a DCSO Facebook post just after 3 p.m. Friday, “We have received complaints in reference to two white males in a dark-colored pickup presenting themselves as roofers. As one male talks to the victim outside, the other male enters the residence and commits a theft.”

Youngman said he’s already begun the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident can call DCSO at 270-685-8444, or they can anonymously call Owensboro Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
