Gov. Andy Beshear made a virtual appearance Thursday at the first-ever remote Rooster Booster.
Beshear praised Owensboro for its efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and reminded people about staying strong together and being calm and cautious while reopening the economy.
“I have to start the way I always start,” he said. “We’re going to get through this. We’re going to get through this together.”
Kentucky has done its due diligence to “cut the top off the muffin” and avoid a huge spike of COVID-19 cases, but the Commonwealth won’t reach a normal again until there’s a vaccine.
“Even though we’re moving from healthy at home to healthy at work, it doesn’t mean we should rush back to big meetings or banquets or groups just yet,” Beshear said. “I’m trying to make the best decisions here in Kentucky. But it’s not so much just the dates and the rules, it’s how well we follow them.”
The challenges of moving forward under a new normal are only going to get bigger as Kentucky rebuilds, he said, but rebooting the economy while staying safe and protecting the most vulnerable is the key.
“More than ever before the decisions we make impact every single person around us,” Beshear said. “So my hope is that this generation is remembered for being kind, for being good, for being willing to sacrifice for one another.”
EM Ford hosted the free Rooster Booster, which was streamed live through the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page and Zoom. More than 6,000 viewers tuned in.
