Owensboro native and Daviess County High School standout Lexie Mullen has been selected to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball First Team. Similarly, Devin Smith made the All-District Baseball First Team.

It’s the first time either Mullen or Smith garnered the award. Both are seniors at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

With Mullen’s honor, the KWC softball team was represented for the third straight year. Smith is the first honoree for the KWC baseball team in the last 30 years.

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 ballot held career statistics instead of single-season statistics.

LEXIE MULLEN
The Owensboro native carried a 3.4 GPA while majoring in elementary education with a minor in English. Mullen is a two-time G-MAC All-Academic honoree.

Mullen finished her career with a pair of All-G-MAC First-Team selections and a NFCA All-Region nod in 2019. She posted a career .325 batting average with 198 hits, 36 doubles and 32 home runs. She drove in 150 runs — a Wesleyan and G-MAC record — while scoring 91 herself.

The infielder is in the Top 10 in 12 statistical categories in Wesleyan career records. Mullen owns the Wesleyan career record for home runs with 32, which sits T-2nd in the G-MAC.

Her name appears three separate times in the Top 10 single-season marks for both home runs and RBIs at KWC.

DEVIN SMITH
The Teutopolis, Ill., native carried a 3.70 GPA while majoring in business administration with an emphasis in human resources. He has been named to the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award, G-MAC All-Academic team, President’s List and Dean’s List since transferring to Wesleyan prior to the 2019 season.

The 2019 G-MAC Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-G-MAC honoree earned three separate All-Region selections plus NCBWA All-American honors last season. He was the first pitcher in program history to earn All-American honors.

Smith went unbeaten on the year with an 8-0 record in 11 starts. As a junior, he led the conference in strikeouts, earned run average, opponents batting average and hits allowed. His 1.74 ERA ranked 15th in the nation.

In 16 career starts at Wesleyan, Smith holds a 10-1 record with three complete games and two shutouts. In 89 innings of work, he racked up 106 strikeouts while holding opponents to 70 hits and 27 runs.

Smith has four career games with 10+ strikeouts. He struck out a career-high 13 against Malone, who was regionally-ranked at the time in May of 2019.
