An 18-wheeler caught a low-hanging line while driving down E. 27th Street, temporarily knocking out power for more than 1,000 Owensboro Municipal Utilities customers. One power pole was snapped, while cable and utility lines running across the block were also brought down.

Crews are continuing to clean up the scene, a process that will take at least a few hours according to Owensboro Fire Department Captain Tim Priar.

Reidents are advised to stay clear of the area, with an advised perimeter from Daviess to St. Ann and 25th to 29th streets.

OMU officials said power has been restored to those affected by the outage, which lasted less than an hour.

OFD, OMU and Owensboro Police Department all responded.
