Being an Eagle has been in Apollo’s Logan Weedman blood since he was walking the halls of Audubon Elementary, but now, he’ll be a Golden Eagle as he’s taking his talents south to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Tech.

Weedman signed his NLI Wednesday in front of friends and family during the early signing period that ends today. He said it was a great feeling.

“I’m just excited because there’s a lot of uncertainty in the recruiting process and nothing is truly guaranteed until you put the pen to the paper,” he said. “I’m just excited I finally got to do that.”

Weedman committed back on Aug. 15 and said Tech stood out for a number of reasons.

“They showed me the most attention out of all the colleges,” he said. “I feel I can be a four-year starter there and it really is an awesome family there. They’re on the come up.”

An athlete’s senior year is meant to be enjoyed. It’s about having one last ride with their teammates but for Weedman and other athletes across the state, the fall season was in doubt because of Covid-19.

Add on the fact that Apollo had a new coach in John Edge and it was a lot of change for Weedman and his fellow seniors but when the dust settled, Edge had helped lead a culture change among Eagle Nation.

Weedman said he hopes to carry that torch to Cookeville.

“We’ve been building a culture here at Apollo and I expect to bring that over to Tech and try to implement all the good things we’ve been building here and just implement that at Tennessee Tech,” he said.

There were a lot of memories to look back on during his final year at AHS but when asked what his fondest memory was, Weedman looked to his brothers on the team.

“I’ll just remember not being able to be with my team all this time then finally getting together and we just had a blast,” he said. “I don’t want to be away from my teammates that long ago. It sucked but getting back together was awesome.”

Weedman broadcasted his signing on Facebook Live Wednesday afternoon and became emotional when talking about his parents.

He said he wouldn’t be where he is without them.

“They mean the world to me,” he said. “To be able to do all the stuff for me and not even bat an eye. Always be there for me and to help me, do all these nice things. It’s awesome.”

He said knowing they’ll always have his back made the recruiting process a little easier to handle.

“They don’t care if I go DI or if I want to flip burgers,” he said. “They’ll be proud of me either way.”

Weedman’s career will now be bookended with him being an Eagle. When asked what it means to represent Apollo, Weedman had a quick response.

“Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”
