The Owensboro Police Department issued a warning Wednesday about a scam after reports of someone claiming to be an OPD officer and asking for payment to settle a warrant.

“They state you need to call the number provided about an issue, and they ultimately tell you to send payment to settle a warrant. This is a scam,” a statement from OPD reads.

It continues: “We will never contact you requesting you pay a fine over the phone. If you receive this call do not call the number back, just contact the police department at 270-687-8888. This will always be the best way to contact an officer.”
