An off-duty detective with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office helped catch an Evansville man and woman who allegedly robbed two local stores before leading deputies on a short high-speed chase late Wednesday night.

According to reports, at 11:26 p.m. the detective observed a male subject running across the parking lot of Ross Dress for Less — located in Gateway Commons — with a laundry basket full of merchandise. The subject got into the passenger seat of a vehicle which left the scene.

Believing that he had just witnessed a shoplifting — later charged as robbery due to the suspect pushing a customer ground while fleeing the store — the detective followed the vehicle while alerting on-duty deputies, according to DCSO.

The detective observed the suspects throwing items from the vehicle. According to reports, an on-duty deputy clocked the vehicle going 115 mph on U.S. 165.

Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop but the vehicle fled. Deputies did not pursue for the safety of the other motorists, but the vehicle stopped a few miles later.

Upon arriving at the stopped vehicle, deputies observed that the male passenger had fled on foot. The female driver was taken into custody.

Units from DCSO and the Owensboro Police Department set up a perimeter, and the male suspect was located at Huck’s on Ragu Drive.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found stolen items from two stores, along with meth.

Logan Brandewie, 32, was charged with:
– Robbery, second degree
– Shoplifting, under $500

Emily Weissman, 29, was charged with:
