This is a story in a series on local high school athletes signing to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.
Daviess County senior Katelyn Ahart is taking her talents across the river next season as she’ll run for the University of Southern Indiana.
Ahart finished seventh in the Class 3A, District 1 Regionals last season and went on to finish 33rd at the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships.
How does it feel to finally know where you’re going to attend next year and to make it official?
I feel as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It was definitely one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.
Why did you choose the school you did?
My mom had set up a visit with USI without telling me, so I was really going just to please her but once I got on campus I fell in love with it. Everyone seems to know each other, and everything is very up-to-date. Another plus is it isn’t too far from home.
What stood out about the program and the coaches?
I have only heard good things about the program and the coaches. It just continues to excel each year.
What are you going to study?
I plan on studying Physical Therapy.
What are you going to miss about your team and school?
I am going to miss the bond I had with each of the girls on my team. They are an awesome group of girls, which makes it so much harder leaving them. I am going to miss high school and all the friendships I have made in the last four years, but I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me.
