People fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, with some exceptions, according to new guidance issued Thursday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday afternoon that Kentucky would be updating its mask mandate to match the CDC guidelines.

The CDC defines fully vaccinated as two weeks after the final shot.

According to the CDC, “Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.:

The announcement came from Dr. Rochelle Walensky during a White House COVID-19 briefing.

“Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing,” Walensky said. “If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy.”
