Customers have paid back approximately three-fourths of the initial $1.54 million owed to Owensboro Municipal Utilities in past-due expenses because of COVID-19. Less than 800 customers are still on payment plans, owing about $380,000 total.

OMU General Manager Kevin Frizzell provided the update during their monthly meeting, noting there were 1,861 payment plan accounts initially created.

Frizzell said during their May meeting that the number of accounts eligible for disconnection had fallen to pre-COVID levels. On Tuesday he noted that the number of such accounts had risen slightly in the last month, but they were still similar to the monthly amount eligible for disconnection prior to the pandemic.

Currently, there are 112 residential and five commercial accounts with a total balance of approximately $21,000 that make up accounts eligible for disconnection.

OMU has reopened its customer service center lobby at 2070 Tamarack Road to the general public.
