Owensboro Catholic football shut out its opponent for the second straight week, defeating Todd County Central 36-0.
It was a usual suspect in senior Braden Mundy who put the Aces on the board early, as a 3-yard rushing touchdown made it a 7-0 game with eight minutes left in the first quarter.
Owensboro Catholic struck once again near the end of the first quarter, as senior quarterback Lincoln Clancy and Mundy connected for a 98-yard touchdown to make it a 14-0 game.
After a bit of a stalemate, Mundy helped the Aces find the endzone once again with 3:57 left in the second quarter. His 20-yard dash to the house made it a 21-0 game.
Less than 30 seconds later, the defense came through to create offense on the kickoff. A fumble was picked up by sophomore Reid Clark and after running it back for a touchdown and converting the two-point conversion, Owensboro Catholic found themselves in charge 29-0 with 3:44 left in the second quarter.
The offense struck again with 32 seconds left in the first half, as Clancy connected with sophomore William Carrico for a 19-yard touchdown to make it a 36-0 game going into the locker room.
With the running clock enforced, the Aces defense held strong and kept Todd County Central off the boards to come away with the 36-0 victory.
The offense has thrived for Owensboro Catholic the last two weeks, scoring 83 points thanks to a number of factors according to Head Coach Jason Morris..
“We’re just getting more efficient every week,” Morris said. “Braden is a really special player and he’s making plays for us in spades and then we’re just doing a good job of everybody else just playing their role… Our offensive line is getting better every week and Lincoln Clancy is getting healthy and that’s a big deal.”
With two straight shutouts their defense has been just as crucial, as the defensive line continues to help them improve as a whole.
“Our defensive line has played really well and is controlling the line of scrimmage,” Morris said. “That’s allowing out linebackers to play free overtop of them and freshman Vince Carico is one of the better linebackers I’ve ever coached. He’s really coming along and then right next to him is senior Max Pride. In the last two weeks, those guys especially have made a lot of plays for us.”
After a rough start to the season, the Aces now have two straight wins under their belt in district play and will look to make it three when they return home to host Butler County at 7 p.m.
“It feels good to win, especially after the five-game stretch we went on to start the season,” Morris said. “We’re doing a really good job of staying focused right now. Our whole motto right now is to stay hungry… As far as we’re concerned we’re 2-0 right now with games that matter.”
