With her senior season approaching, Owensboro Catholic’s softball standout Camille Conkright has solidified her future collegiately by signing with Campbellsville University.
Conkright is coming off of a solid junior season in which she hit .343, scored 30 runs and tallied seven RBIs to help Owensboro Catholic finish with a 21-14 record overall.
While Conkright is excited to take the next step in her athletic career, she will miss all the friends and memories she’s made during her time as a Lady Ace.
“I’ll miss how close everyone at my school is,” Conkright said. “We’ve all been going to the same school with each other for multiple years and I know that they will always have my back no matter what. I’ve been playing with most of the girls on my high school team since I was eight years old. They’ve always been there for me and they have definitely made me better as a player. I will also miss my basketball and the girls on the team. They’ve had a huge impact on the person I am today and those are some of my best friends. Basketball has made me better as a softball player mentally and physically.”
Conkright is thrilled to be officially joining the Tigers in the near future, glad that the recruiting process is finally over.
“It’s kind of a relief to know what I’m going to be doing for the next four years of my life,” Conkright said. “There’s a lot of pressure off of me to know that I have plans for after high school this early in the year.”
Conkright said that it was the size of the campus and familiarity with some of their current players that helped her know this was where she wanted to continue her athletic and academic career.
“Campbellsville was really welcoming and it was small which is obviously what I’m used to going to a high school with 400 kids,” Conkright said. “I have played with a couple of players on that team and I know that I would feel comfortable going there knowing that I knew at least a couple people. “
The Lady Aces senior—who is looking to exercise science and communications for her studies—said that she also loves the coaching staff, noting that she thinks they can help her be the best version of herself on and off the field.
“The coaches were really nice when I met them, but I knew that they would continue to push me to be the best I can be,” Conkright said. “I knew that they were going to help me be a better person and player.”
