Daviess County’s Kinsey Vergason has set herself up for collegiate softball entering her senior season, signing with McKendree University.

Vergason is coming off of a junior campaign in which she played in 26 games, helping the Lady Panthers to a runner-up finish in state this year.

While she is ready for the next step in her athletic career, Vergason is going to miss her time at Daviess County and the friends she’s made along the way.

“I am going to miss getting to play the sport I love with my best friends and I’m going to miss the support our team gets from our school,” Vergason said. “I am also going to miss playing with my travel team as well. After spending so many years with both of my teams, it is going to be bittersweet to continue with the next chapter of my life.”

Vergason will be majoring in exercise science and minoring in psychology before eventually pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The Lady Panther is thrilled to finally have the recruiting process come to an end.

“It feels great to have found my home after years of working towards this,” Vergason said. “Recruiting for most of the 2022 class was a little unexpected due to COVID, but it all worked out the way it was supposed to. I am so excited it’s been made official.”

When she went on her visit, Vergason visualized the campus as a second home that she could continue her academic and athletic career at.

“When I went on my visit to McKendree I could see myself there for the next four years of my life,” Vergason said. “They have everything I’m looking for academically and athletically. I knew before I left campus that day that McKendree would be where I will call home.”

Vergason said that the coaching staff made her feel right at home amongst the team and that she can grow as a person and a player while playing competitive softball.

“When I went to a McKendree camp before I committed, it was awesome to experience firsthand how Coach Tarter and Coach Mady coach and interact with players,” Vergason said. “The camp had an atmosphere of structure, intensity, and aggressiveness that I love to be a part of and compete in. On a personal level, I know my coaches are people that have my best interest in mind and I can count on them throughout my academic and athletic journey for the next four years.”

Vergason will look to help Daviess County have another strong season and postseason during her senior season before moving on to her journey with McKendree.
