Matt Fitzgerald on Tuesday officially announced he is running for Daviess County East Commissioner in the 2022 election.

Fitzgerald said should he be elected, he has three initiatives — to spend and save responsibly, take care of each other, and plan for the future. In doing so, he said it builds a unifying community where he believes no one will get left behind.

Each initiative dives further into different categories to serve the community. One example for the spending and saving initiative is planning to prioritize relieving the county of its debt.

He also hopes to make parks throughout the county all-inclusive, review allocations to social services, and tackle the drug epidemic within the community.

“As your Commissioner, I will work tirelessly alongside the supervision of the Sheriff’s Office to provide all means necessary in order to fight and eradicate this from our community,” Fitzgerald said.

While planning for the future, Fitzgerald plans to focus on the growth of the economy, deregulation and the children of the county.

Being a Marine in 2005 until being honorably discharged in 2009, he cites his experience in the military along with being a cancer survivor as times he’s had to make tough decisions and face challenges head-on.

Fitzgerald promises that he will use common sense to make informed decisions that will benefit the community of Daviess County as a whole, leading with transparency and integrity.

“I believe we, the citizens of Daviess County, are willing to work for a respectable wage, keep most of our money, raise our kids in peace and be left alone,” Fitzgerald said.
